Apartment transformation: from dark and compartmentalized to spacious and bright
In this project, our goal was to transform an old, dark and compartmentalized apartment into a modern, spacious home full of natural light. To achieve this, we opted for the integration of spaces, eliminating architectural barriers and optimizing natural lighting and ventilation.
Reconfiguration of space
The original layout of the apartment strictly separated the private and common areas, making interaction between the different environments difficult. In particular, the kitchen and the living room were completely isolated, which prevented communication between the two without going through several doors. To respond to the client’s need for a more social and connected space, we removed unnecessary partitions and merged the kitchen with the living-dining room, creating a fluid and functional area.
Optimizing light and ventilation
Despite having large glazed terraces, the apartment had a dark and closed atmosphere. The elimination of dividing walls allowed natural light to be distributed evenly from the kitchen to the living room, completely transforming the spatial perception. In addition, this opening facilitated the generation of cross ventilation, guaranteeing a cooler and more comfortable environment during the summer months.
